Family Home Remodel

Brief

The clients for the project were a couple with two children aged twelve and fourteen. In the current layout, the client felt disconnected from the family, when she was cooking in the kitchen and was challenging to entertain guests. Therefore, the clients wanted to reconfigure the ground floor to have informal family gatherings, and feel more connected with everyone at home. Since the kids were growing up, they mentioned it would be nice to have a study in the ground floor.

Design

The new layout proposed, included all the clients requirements. The layout was carefully planned to include a separate study, which doubles as the guest room, a guest bathroom and a laundry space. The space under the stair case was modified into a pantry, to accommodate the clients storage needs. The kitchen and living area were planned as an open concept space to enable the client to cook, entertain and be involved with the guests at the same time. An additional outdoor patio was also included to accommodate the entire extended family.
